Holmes wins 8th grade state tournament
The Holmes Bulldogs won the 8th grade boys state tournament this weekend at the KBA in Lexington. The championship game was called at halftime and Holmes was declared the winner by disqualification. Pikeville had a new player, Teddy Smith, transfer to Pikeville this week from a neighboring school, Johns Creek. Pikeville allowed him to play in the tournament. The eligibility rules for the state tourney, says you have to play in a minimum of five games to be eligible. Needless to say Mr. Smith was ineligible and this cost Pikeville the championship. So Holmes goes home the State Champions. I hope to contact Coach Engelmon tonight and get more details. Congrats to Andrew Arnold for making all-tournament team and the rest of the young Bulldogs.
