NKMSA Finals

Wow, what a long day at Grant County.  It was a pro Conner crowd with four Colt teams in the finals.  The day began with Campbell County girls putting their undefeated record on the line.  The Lady Camels defeated Twenhofel to keep their record unblemished.  For the 6th grade boys it was the Conner who led almost the entire game.  But as time was running out, Hines for Woodland put in a missed shot as time expired.  To give Woodland the championship.

In the 7th grade girls game, the Twenhofel lady Breds defeated the Lady Camels.  Game was close all the way to the end.  Coach Walker's lady Breds was able to turn over the Lady Camels late in the game to win the championship.  The boys games seen the Ockerman Hawks play a tough game against the Conner Colts.  This game was tied going into the last quarter 18 all.  Conner took a 3 pt lead in the fourth thanks to Mason Gambrel's good defense and rebounding.  But in the end, the Hawks converted three, three point plays to seal the victory.

The 8th grade girls game may have been the game of the day.  This group of Colts have been in this position before.  They made it to the championship game as 6th and 7th graders, winning the championship last year.  This year was a bit tougher with two of the better players playing up on Conner's JV and Varsity teams.  The Lady Gators where heavy favorites to the fans I spoke to in the stands.  But as we know the favorites don't always win.  Grey led almost the entire but the Colts battled back and took a late lead and held on for back to back championships.  In the last game of the day it was the Holmes Bulldogs only a week removed form their state championship playing, yes, another Conner Colts team.  Conner fought a good fight but in the end the size and speed of the Bulldogs done them in.  The Bulldogs finished the season at 32 and 1 with a League Tournament Championship and of course the State Championship.

Well another middle school season in the books.  Congratulation to all these young men and women for all teams in the NKMAA.  Bring on the AAU season!!!
