Blessed Sacrament 7th grade team

The last time most of us seen this Blessed Sacrament team they where defeating Woodland in the 6th grade championship.  A game that seen Cole Vanhandorf put in 30 plus points leading his team to the NKMSAA Championship.  This season Blessed Sacrament left the NKMSAA and is playing in the St. Henry Catholic School League.  They have compiled an impressive overall record of 26 wins and 3 losses.  The have won three tournaments as well, winning the Campbell County Classic, Cardinal Pacelli Ron Speed Memorial and the Midwest Hoops Winter Classic.  They are starting their league tournament this week.  I will check in with them again when they complete their season this week.  Good luck to them in their upcoming tournament.

Northern KY top 8th graders

After speaking with some of the NKMSAA coaches, I have compiled a list of some of the top 8th graders in the area.  This list is no particular order.

Carson Williams-Owen County. At 6ft 4in and about 230 lbs he is getting varsity minutes.  He made the all-tournament team in the All "A" tournament.  Been dunking since the end of his 6th grade year.
Thad Moss-Ockerman. Big strong kid that can take a game over.  Primarily a post players but handles the ball well enough to play some SF.
Elijah Tauai-Twenhofel. True post player with good skill.
Will Hepler-Blessed Sacrament. At 6ft 4in he plays the post but can easily face up and knocked down open jumpers.  Great passing skills.
Gunther Paeth-Turkeyfoot.  Another big athletic kid that is use to playing the post but is starting to develop some perimater skills.
Markel McClendon-Holy Cross.  8th grade guard getting varsity time on a good Holy Cross team.
Jacob Smith-Holy Trinity.  Big guard with serious skills to get to the rim.
Brandon Moore-Holmes.  Another big kid at 6ft 4in that plays inside and out.  Great shot blocker with good timing and controls a lot of his blocks.
Brennon Englemon-Holmes.  Big guard with lock down defensive skills.
Ethan Snapp-Newport. Scores from all angles.  Can knock down the jumper and has enough moves to get past defenders and get his shot off.  Probably doesn't make this list last year.

Northern Kentucky top 7th grade players

After speaking with some on the NKMSAA 7th grade coaches, I have compiled a list of the top 7th graders in the NK area.  The list is in no particular order.

Cameron Racke-Twenhofel-Starts for Simon Kenton Freshman team. Most athletic on this list. Played the 4/5 in middle school and playing 1/2 at SK.
Cole Vonhandorff-Blessed Sacrament. Left handed small forward who can score from everywhere.
Jake Ohmer-Woodland. Blue collar guard that scores from beyond the arc and by turning steals into layups.
JC Hawkins-Summit View. Plays 1, 2 and 3.  Perimeter player with the best passing skills of the group.  Extremely high basketball I.Q.
Mathew Thiel-St. Pius. Big strong kid but very athletic too.  Best game is in the post but can step away and knocked down some open jumpers.
Hunter Myer-Turkeyfoot.  Lightning quick PG, very strong for his size.  Looks to score going to the basket.  Probably doesn't make this list at a 6th grader.
Dante Hendrix-Ockerman. True PG with good decision making skills and very solid on defense
Sean Mcneil-Walton.  Best shooter maybe in the state at his age.  Played some freshman minutes as well this year.
Brent Angel-Grey.  Another tall athletic kid that is very solid on the defensive side of the ball
Gannon Huff-Beechwood.  Don't let size fool you.  Although he is small he has great work ethic and extremely high I.Q.  He gets his teammates open for shots and can knock down his own.

No Northern KY schools advance past Saturday in 6th grade state

All three teams from Northern KY lost in bracket play on Saturday night at the KBA.  Twenhofel lost to Shelby West Middle School 38 to 27 in the second round.  Twenhofel was led by their guards Sam Murray and Isiah Chickara.  Gray lost to Foley Middle 53 to 19 also in the second round.  Foley is located in Berea KY and is a feeder school for Madison County.

Conner had a bye in the first round.  Their second round opponent was Tates Creek.  They took care of business and  defeated them 47 to 22.  In the third round they lost to Foley 36 to 28.  Conner is led by a very talented group, Adam Kunkel, Jake Walters, Braden Burch and Tanner Craddock.  They should lead Conner to a deep run in the NKMSAA end of the season tournament.
