Legends keep rolling on

The NK Legends keep rolling along this summer by winning the Kings Island Classic in Mason Ohio this weekend.  The Legends beat the likes of the Cincy Allstars and Cincy Ball Stars in pool play.  In bracket play the played a NK Bulldog team that added Carson Williams and Ethan Snapp to their weekend roster. Even  if with the added talent the Bulldogs couldn't overcome the Legends.  The Legends went on to defeat the Cincy Royals in the Championship game.  The Legends pushed their record to 40-7 with 7 tournament championships including two AAU Super Regional championships.  They also  finished runner-up in the D1 State Tournament.  Very impressive spring for this talented team.

Timberwolves have another solid weekend

The NK Timberwolves continue their impressive summer with a runner-up in the Best Buy/Cheddars Ohio Players Tournament at Midwest Hoops in Florence.  The Twolves posted victories against host Ohio Players, Sports Brand Hurricanes, Spiece Legacy and Southeast Indy.  But four games in six hours was to much for the Twolves and they fell to the Ohio Players in the Championship.  Point guard Hunter Wood showed why he played freshman and JV for Pendleton County this past season, with a solid weekend for the Twolves.  Coach Stapleton said he expects Hunter to be a key contributor this season for Pendleton at the JV and Varsity level.

NKY Bulldogs 8th grade AAU team

Another NK Team making their rounds on the AAU circuit this summer is the NK Bulldogs.  The Bulldogs are coached by Sean Murphy and Josh Smith.  I have heard the Bulldogs have had a rash a injuries this spring.  But in spite of that they have had two final four appearances, one in the Bluegrass Bash and the other in the Hilltopper Hoopfest.  The Bulldog's roster is made up of mostly Northern KY kids but has players from as far south as Somerset.  A few of their players that I have seen in person are Erich Jakubowski and Austin Sweeney.  Erich is a sharpshooter from Summit View Middle that isn't afraid to pull the trigger and Austin has good length and quickness that helps him beat his man off the dribble and get to the rim.  I will be happy to see them in action with a healthy squad soon.

NK Bulldog roster:
Vince Toftness - Maurice Bowling Middle School (Owen County)
Chad McDonald - Maurice Bowling Middle School
Mason Borchers - Maurice Bowling
Koby Carlton - Gallatin County
Erich Jakubowski - Summit View
Austin Sweeney - Villa Madonna
Tyler Bezold - Villa Madonna
Peyton Curry - Villa Madonna
Jared Farris - Meece Middle School (Somerset)
Daniel Coldiron - Meece Middle School

Timberwolves win Knoxville Mayhem Tourny

The NK Timberwolves continue their impressive spring with a championship in the Knoxville Mayhem Tournament in Knoxville Tennessee.  They went 2-1 in pool play defeating the Knoxville Redskins 52-40 and then the host Knoxville Mayhem 54-40.  Their lost to KY Monsoon didn't keep them from winning their pool and advancing to the championship game against the Knoxville Knicks.  They defeated the Knicks 42-30.  Coach Singleton praised of all his team but said Ben Weyers was a beast all weekend, averaging a double double in points and rebounds.  Their next action will be in Lexington at the Court Royalty Tournament at the KBA.
